Veneers
Veneers are lab-perfected teeth restorations used to optimize the aesthetic of your teeth. They cover the front surface of the visible teeth to give the desired color and shape for you. Veneers are thin porcelain shells that are customized to the shape of your teeth. They are primarily used for aesthetic purposes. Many celebrities chose to have veneers to create what may be considered a perfect smile.
Who is a candidate for veneers?
Patients that desire a specific tooth shape or color that cannot be achieved with other methods
Teeth that do not respond to whitening due to tetracycline staining, enamel abnormalities, or other causes
Front teeth that have older white fillings can become stained over time (due to food and drinks such as wine and coffee) many people in this situation choose to get veneers because they are impermeable to stain.
In order to transform your teeth with veneers, there is a two-appointment process at our clinic.
The first visit local anesthetic may be applied (freezing). Impressions are taken of the area where the veneers will be made for. The teeth where the veneers will be attached will then be reshaped and a minimal amount of the tooth structure is removed. This process is to keep the tooth same size when the veneer is attached.
More impressions are then taken and temporary coverings are placed to protect the reshaped teeth (while waiting for the lab-perfected veneers).
Between the first and second visit, you may be sent to visit the technician directly to discuss the options for colors and shaping. The technician then uses the impressions from the first appointment and your preferences to fabricate your veneers. Veneers are customized and perfected in the lab by the technician who is trained and skilled in this area.
During your second appointment at Stony Plain Dental Centre, the area may be frozen again. Then the temporary coverings are removed and the veneers are tried on and checked for correct fit and aesthetic. After confirming fit and aesthetic, the veneers are permanently bonded (glued) onto the teeth.
